Half of Brits Spend Nothing on Their Partners This Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day, a time for romanceor is it? Recent statistics show that 49.15% of people in a relationship will spend absolutely nothing on their partner this Valentine's Day. And that's not all; only 3.53% believe that Valentine's Day is a good time to propose.
But, don't despair, romance isn't dead just yet - more than 35% of those aged 26 and under would like to get engaged during summer. So, instead of proposing with a token heart-shaped chocolate box this Valentine's Day, perhaps consider whisking your loved one to warmer lands over the coming months. After all, 60% of females hope to be taken on a surprise trip by their partner. In contrast, 67.42% of males would prefer a planned holiday with prior warning. Perhaps a romantic Valentine's card detailing your plans would set the scene for your blissful summer break?
The Co-operative Travel offer dozens of fantastic city breaks and lavish summer holidays to choose from. Paris is still coming out on top as the most romantic destination at 38.24%, followed by Venice, the chosen city of love by 27.06% of people. But, who says you need to follow tradition? The more adventurous love birds would prefer to visit destinations such as Norway, Iceland, Japan, Fiji and Marrakech.
Any tips for the perfect romantic trip? Well, it looks like women have the most expensive taste, so make sure you book the 4* and above accommodation that 91.67% of them expect! Men are more easily pleased, with half of them opting for 3* and below.
If it's a woman you're winning over, then plan a romantic meal as 91.67% enjoy being wined and dined on holiday. Men on the other hand are twice as likely to opt for a day exploring local culture whilst away.
All this said, don't worry too much about the details. A besotted 4.41% of people believe the most romantic destination is simply the place where their partner is, wherever that may be. Maybe that's because, regardless of the sights, restaurants and culture on offer, a third of women and 16.67% of men are simply planning some serious time in their hotel room! By the looks of things, romance is still very much alive!
